Where Was Terminal List Filmed?

Chris Pratt's thriller shot largely in California, from Coronado's naval base to the shores of Lake Arrowhead.

The Short Answer

The Terminal List was mainly filmed in California. Season 1 production ran from March to August 2021, shooting in Los Angeles County (Santa Clarita and Hermosa Beach), San Diego County (including Coronado's Naval Amphibious Base), and Lake Arrowhead. Later seasons and the prequel expanded abroad, with filming in Toronto, South Africa, Morocco, Croatia and Hungary.

The Terminal List, released in 2022, follows a Navy SEAL seeking answers after a ambush kills his platoon. The show is set in California, and the production stayed close to home, which suited star Chris Pratt, who lives in the state and preferred shooting there.

The result is a rare case where the on screen setting and the real filming locations largely match. Most of the spots below are public and easy to visit on a California trip, though a few, like the naval base in Coronado, remain off limits.

Santa Clarita Valley, north of Los Angeles, hosted pivotal scenes for season 1. The area sits in the upper watershed of the Santa Clarita River and offers rugged terrain that reads well on screen as remote California. It is all public land, so travellers can drive through the valley and explore the same scrubby hillsides that appear in the series. filming took place during the principal photography window in 2021.

Where It Is Set Versus Where It Was Filmed

The story is set in California, centred on the San Diego area with the Navy SEAL base in Coronado, and season 1 was largely filmed in the very locations it depicts. Later productions doubled other places for various settings, with season 2 filming expanding to South Africa, Toronto, Washington DC and Morocco.

The Studio Side

Interior work and studio production were handled at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, which is not open for public touring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Was The Terminal List Filmed?

Mainly in California: Los Angeles County (Santa Clarita, Hermosa Beach), San Diego County (including Coronado), Lake Arrowhead, Redondo Beach and San Francisco. Later seasons and the prequel added Toronto, South Africa, Morocco, Croatia and Hungary.

Can You Visit The Naval Base In Coronado?

No. Naval Amphibious Base Coronado is an active military installation with restricted access. Travellers can view the Coronado area and its public beaches, but the base itself, used for the SEAL Team 7 and BUD/S training scenes, is closed to visitors.

When Did Season 1 Film?

Principal photography ran from March to August 2021, including the bar scenes shot in Hermosa Beach in April 2021.

Is Lake Arrowhead Open To Visitors?

Yes, it is a popular tourist lake. Exterior areas such as Shelter Cove Drive can be viewed, but some lakefront estates used for boat scenes and the final episode are private, and heavy security was noted during filming.

Why Did The Show Film In California?

The story is set there, and Chris Pratt preferred filming in California because he resides in the state.

Did Any Filming Happen Outside The United States?

Yes. Season 2 expanded to South Africa, Toronto, Washington DC and Morocco, and other franchise productions shot in Croatia and Hungary.

California carries most of The Terminal List on screen identity, and nearly all of it is within reach of a road trip: beaches, a mountain lake and city streets that appear just as they did in the show. Only the Coronado base stays out of bounds, and even that can be admired from the surrounding public shoreline.
